Kick-Off for Mentoring Program for Female Scientists and Students

On 18 April, the opening event for the second round of the mentoring program for female early career researchers and students was held in the ceremonial hall of the Rectorate of TU Dresden. The mentoring program, which is supported by equal opportunities funding from various research areas at TU Dresden, aims to support participants in their academic career development and to network them at different stages of their professional careers.

The event began with an opening address by program coordinator Grit Schuster, followed by an insight into the career and research work of Fellow Prof Speidel from the National Centre for Tumour Diseases. Prof Speidel answered the questions of the interested participants on the topic of ‘Women in Science’ with her extensive experience and valuable advice for the academic world of science.

A particular highlight of the event was the direct contact with the supporting research areas. The Clusters of Excellence CeTI, PoL and ct.qmat as well as the research areas SECAI, SFB 1143, GRK 2250, CPEC and the CRC 1415 presented their current research.

A total of 34 highly motivated participants took part in the event. Their common goal is to advance their careers in science, further their education and make valuable contacts. They are particularly looking forward to being supported by experienced mentors in science. SECAI supports the program with five tandems and three of its female doctoral students support the young female scientists as mentors.
